NRH Issues 2005
Ask The Mayor or Any Current Council Member The Questions Below... |
|
1.) Why have Property Taxes in NRH gone up over 100% in the past 10 years? Population in NRH has gone up only 19.6% during the same period.
2.) Why does the current council plan to raise property taxes by 100% minimum over the next 10 years?
3.) Why they don’t want a cap on increases?
4.) Why did two city council members go with the Mayor on a junket to NYC to help sell the “bonds” of the city? Over 30% of City Debt is from Certificates of Obligation which are Bonds issued without voter approval. Their expenses are paid by you and hidden in charges from bonding companies.
5.) Why does the current city council ignore private property rights?
6.) Why are Public hearings before the sitting city council such a sham? All ordinances and the budget expenses are pre-decided and pre-written before any hearings.
7.) Why is Information from the City very difficult to see or review? Records are open only after very tedious and difficult inquiries are made under open records requests. Citizens have to buy any information requested from the city – even council agenda packets that are furnished free to the media.
9.) Why is it necessary to have a $4.8 Million slush fund? What happened to the $15 Million in slush funds for this year and the last two years?
10.) Why is the City Council unresponsive to citizen inquiries and questions? Why do they show disrespect for citizens choosing to go before the council?
11.) Why does the Mayor and Council limit Citizen comments but allow themselves unlimited time to berate the citizens? 12.) Why is there no attempt to control spending? The annual budget for NRH is now over $78 Million per year. Taxes could be cut 10% by simply cutting the slush funds in half. No cuts in city staff, pay or city services would be required. |
